Luna sadly said sorry to the poor little monkey

The sun was just beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a golden hue over the jungle canopy. Birds chirped their final songs of the day while the wind whispered softly through the trees. Deep within this lush forest, a gentle girl named Luna wandered alone, her head hung low and eyes filled with regret. She was usually full of laughter and light, a curious soul with a heart that cared deeply for all creatures. But today was different. Today, Luna had made a mistake.

Earlier that afternoon, Luna had been playing near the riverbank where the animals often came to drink. She loved sketching them in her notebook and learning their habits. As she approached her usual spot, she noticed a small monkey sitting on a rock, munching on a bright yellow banana. The monkey, no bigger than a house cat, looked up at her with wide, trusting eyes. Luna recognized him—he was one of the baby monkeys she’d seen before, always shy, always gentle.

Excited and playful, Luna wanted to get closer. She crept toward him slowly at first, but then a sudden thought made her laugh. What if she pretended to grab his banana and run away, just for fun? She didn’t mean any harm—she thought it would be a silly little game. Before she could second guess herself, she darted forward and swiped the banana from the monkey’s tiny hands.

Startled, the little monkey let out a high-pitched squeal and tumbled backward, falling off the rock and into the shallow water below. His eyes filled with fear and confusion. Luna stood frozen, banana still in hand, her laughter quickly fading into guilt. The monkey scrambled back onto the bank, dripping wet and shaking, his gaze locked with Luna’s.

That moment stayed with her all day. What she had thought would be harmless fun had clearly caused the poor creature fear and distress. It wasn’t funny. It wasn’t kind. And the worst part was that she had broken the monkey’s trust.

Now, as twilight painted the sky with purples and oranges, Luna returned to the riverbank, clutching a fresh banana in her hands. She found the little monkey again, this time hiding behind a bush, watching her cautiously. Her heart ached. She knelt down slowly, setting the banana on the ground, and whispered, “I’m so sorry.”

Her voice trembled, heavy with sadness and sincerity. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I thought it would be a game… but it wasn’t. I understand now.”

The monkey didn’t move at first. But slowly, curiously, he stepped forward, sniffing the air. He looked up at Luna, eyes soft and uncertain. And then, with a tentative motion, he took the banana.

Luna smiled through teary eyes. It was a small moment of forgiveness, but it meant the world. She had learned something important: kindness is never a game, and trust is a treasure not to be taken lightly.
